Metta-Flavoured Awareness

An awareness that’s open and sensitive to metta can support the felt sense with minimal effort.
Something than can conflict with this is a sense of being in a war with distractions and mental content in general.
In this practice we’ll open up awareness to include mental content as well. Metta can be bigger than mental content - can include it and contain it. So getting more absorbed into Metta needn’t mean trying to shut down or fight with distractions, which tends to make the mind more at odds with itself - less unified. Getting absorbed into a love that embraces all of your mind, whatever your mind does, is a much more effective way of tending towards unification of mind and absorption. And of course, when the mind system is happy and unified, distractions will naturally be lighter, less frequent, recognised as they arise, and therefore less disruptive.
