
Visualisations are probably the other most common form of metta practice. I’m covering a few simple ones in this meditation, but again you should feel free to try others if you know any, and even make up your own!
However, I have sometimes heard from people who expend a great deal of time and energy engaging in elaborate visualisation practices but don’t actually get much benefit from them - remember that the point of this practice is only to create sparks of a felt sense of metta, not to get better at visualisation, so let that guide what you try and how much detail you include. A minimal visualisation that supports metta is preferable to a complex one that doesn’t.
